Brussels freedom march

We were in Brussels recently (to visit S’Hertogenbosch, for the 500th anniversary Hieronymous Bosch exhibition) and were sitting in a pub as 20,000 people gathered for a march to support free speech and protest against this spring’s terrorist outrages.

The sheer range of organisations and individuals represented was impressive; as was the orderly way in which all the speakers were heard, and the relatively light security. Away from the event, it was interesting to see baklava on sale with the same panache as the more traditional chocolate and ice-cream in the city centre.
