Florence 2013: just before the storm took out the screens in a flash of sparks…

Just been watching the UCI cycling world championships on the BBC’s livestream. It looked cold, wet and dirty in Ponferrada, where Pole Mikel Kwiatkowski won off the front, and everybody else came in looking thoroughly hacked off.

The rain was nothing on last year’s event in Florence, however, where a huge storm raged over most of the race. I was lucky enough to be in the grandstand, and here’s the main screen, just before the electrics gave up (more pictures on the Flickr stream). This year half the museums in Florence have been closed because of huge and unseasonable hailstorms…
